in between work and sleep (oh, and my favorite...eating), i have been busy uploading, editing, and burning hundreds of photos onto cd. so this is just a quick post with a few of my favorite images from a darling hawaiian-themed birthday party that i had the privilege of shooting this past weekend. thanks amy!

the last 6 months have been so fun...creating pretty things for tessa ann with her even prettier buttons.
i was sent a package of pretty fuschia, green, and aqua buttons for my last creation. i paired the buttons with a package of vintage ribbon (the wild pink netted stuff) and thought i'd wrap a pretty package! i covered the box with a brown paper bag, added some dayglo green yarn and felt, and glued some extra bling onto my "blossoms". a fun and inexpensive way to say happy birthday!

so today's wedding? well, it was last night instead. and a last minute rush mixed with a tiny bit of panic turned out to be the most gorgeous wedding i have been to. the venue was like something out of a fairytale...and the bride? well, she belonged in a magazine. she was so pretty and just as sweet...here is a preview of what's to come. the chandeliers in the trees were just...i don't know. perfection?
i will share more photos asap. but now i must go get ready to snap some photos of an adorable little girl who is having her birthday party today!
tomorrow i am off to spend another day with jessica and i cannot wait! here are a couple of images from last weekend's wedding...as a second shooter, i tried to help capture those moments that would otherwise be forgotten.

i think that my schedule finally caught up with me as i was pretty ill wednesday night. yesterday was tough. i had no energy and of course that doesn't really fly in the veterinary industry. thank goodness i requested today off long ago. i was able to catch up on some housework, grocery shopping, laundry, blogging (yay!), and resting. tonight i hope to order in something wonderful for dinner and maybe watch a movie with my handsome husband.

hi! long time no blog...i am finally getting sorta caught up. first thing on the list? a weekend in review!
saturday morning we were up early. 5:30am early to be exact (what?!). rick rode in his second biking event and i just had to snap some shots of him before he was off for 7 hours of riding. this is what pets bewildered by the earliness of the day look like...

i wished rick luck and he was off to the freedom from cancer ride in independence, missouri. he was sporting a bright red jersey that looked great! and he rode a whopping 90 miles! he was going for 100 but was cut short by some serious back pain. but he is still proud, as am i...next time he will hit 100.
and then i was off to spend the afternoon with the wildly talented jessica peterson. i assisted with shooting a wedding (my first!) and learned lots in that short amount of time. i also learned that wow, i am OUT OF SHAPE! i hope share photos later (if i can), but here are a couple of images that i know are ok to show you...
my soft and silvery flats. super comfy...my feet were about the ONLY thing that didn't hurt.
and jessica's lighting...that soft glow was really dreamy.
then sunday i had the weekend duty for my clinic. and we happened to have all sorts of hospitalized and boarding animals, including a white one-eyed guinea pig and an alexandrine parakeet. but rick went with me and made a drab day into a pretty fun 4th.
so now i rest. and catch up. a little doody duty in the backyard. tidy up the house. cook a yummy dinner tonight. maybe even journal a bit? and definitely take a short nap.
just in time to do it all over again this coming weekend! we are headed south to harrisonville to a magical place called a frog prince.

yep. there is so much on my plate right now that i have just shut down. and what do i do when i have stalled out?
i avoid work by playing with my cameras.
i grabbed my vintage duaflex and followed my poor dogs around. they are so tired of the "abuse".

through the viewfinder (TtV) is so fun and easy. of course, since i didn't make one of those cardboard contraption thingys (too lazy), i have some glare on the garden image. oh well!
as for my sumemr of love class, i am still behind, but i try to do what i can when i have a spare moment. one of my favorite photo prompts? take a blurry photo. no problem. i am the queen of blurry shots. not that i should be bragging about that skill.
i might have even accomplished capturing a little bokeh, don't you think? opinion please, since i still don't seem to understand that concept.
i received my new shootsac in the mail the other day and was surprised to see that even the packaging was beautiful. i will be keeping that box for awhile...you never know what i might need it for!
i also received my rental flash in the mail.
i now definitely need one. of course i don't know how to use it yet, but in the 2 hours i spent playing, i was surprised with my results. the below shots were taken in my kitchen around 4 pm. with the lights off. this is where batman perches himself until i feed him. until i give in he purrs, chirps, and acts completely adorable. i took advantage of his good nature to practice.
i love how i can rotate and tilt the bulb in any direction!
not only is my camera equipment dressed to the nines in its new bag, but i have also been gathering together what i will be wearing for this summer's weddings. now i do have to keep it simple...black pants, white tops, etc. BUT i did find some pretty accessories at anthropologie yesterday.

just an update...my etsy shop is now closed for the rest of the summer. this will give me time to pursue my photography AND stock my shelves with fresh vintage. i will reopen no later then october 1, 2010, just in time for the holiday season.

i am absolutely loving this class. i have signed up for online classes in the past and never really kept up...but this one is different. or i am different (maybe my priorities are different). don't get me wrong. i am still behind. there are at 4 journaling prompts every weekday, but they are surprisingly simple...stuff i would've never thought to write about. duh.
my favorite materials used here are the shimmery sequins and velvet damask rub-on...all stuff i found in my stash.
another shimmery sequin, some messy watercolor, a page out of an old south american wildlife book, and a hidden note. my journaling is typed and tucked in a pocket that is actually the bottom of a paper bag. when i stitched the bag flat, the pocket just happened! what i typed is pretty private, even for my new blogging philosophy, so no photos of that page.
one of my favorite prompts yet! the book spine and my spine...get it? and look! more sparkly sequins. and a bike rub-on. what're the chances i'd find one of those hidden in a drawer? but what i typed is true. as crazy as rick makes me feel sometimes, i really depend on him for everything...even more so recently. he is pretty incredible in all that he does.
well, i am off to edit some photos i took yesterday with my friend who's wedding i will be shooting in august. we toured her church and chatted at length about what she would like. i should also get my rental flash today (580EX II)...and i have exactly 4 days to figure out how to use it (for another wedding that i will be second shooting) SO if anyone has suggestions for a quick tutorial, PLEASE leave a comment.
i am not so sure about this by-the-seat-of-my-pants learning technique i have adopted...wish me luck please.

i am deep in the throes of kara's summer of love journaling class. now it really isn't painful as such, but it is nice to be able to create something and be 100% honest with myself. the pages aren't perfect. quite messy in fact. my journaling is not all butterflies and rainbows, but it is real. i even use a swear word or two (gasp). even my husband is impressed. he asked if it feels good to get it all down on paper. yes it does.
and the photo prompts & mini-tutorials? so fun and i am learning lots!
now these images may look like crap to you...too dark, grainy, blurry...but they mean something to me. just a little peek into my summer.
today will be spent trying to get caught up with my assignments. i am also doing the usual sunday schtuff. laundry, a little cleaning, watching funny movies on fx (austin powers, click, super bad, etc.), and preparing for a tasty dinner of hamburgers with sauteed mushrooms and buffalo wing cheddar cheese. don't forget the watermelon.
this coming week is full. i am expecting my new shootsac, my rental flash, a meeting with my friend for her late august wedding, an oil change (boo), and a date on wednesday night with amy. what we're doing is a secret, but i bet you could figure it out if you thought about it a little.
oh, and i have to brag a little about rick. two years ago my husband weighed in at over 270 pounds. he was out of shape, depressed...in general, an unhappy man. then when we made our move from washington state to kansas city, he started riding his mountain bike. that since evolved into a road bike (you know, like lance armstrong). he has lost over 50 pounds. he smiles so much more. and he just rode in his first official ride yesterday. the tour de lakes. he rode 65 miles in 4 hours. and next weekend he is going for a full 100 miles. pretty incredible! proof that good ol' exercise really does work. so very proud.
