two word tuesday on a monday was not what i had planned. apparently i cannot read a calendar OR tell time very well. but that's ok, right? i mean it IS vacation. and we are having a fabulous time up here in clark, colorado. it is beautiful and snowy here. erik & julie's home is gorgeous. peter is precious. i have already figured out how to feed, bathe, change, burp, and comfort this tiny baby boy (all with the help of a very awesome dad).
we just returned from a little drive to steamboat lake & pearl lake state parks where julie is the park manager. what an amazing place. then we drove down to the clark store to check the mail. i also saw a $6.00 gallon of milk and giant jawbreakers on a stick.
tonight we are driving to the "big city" of steamboat springs for some mexican food and margs at the rio (if you are from, or have ever lived in colorado, you know all about the rio, or rio grande). then we will take a little tour of the routt county dispatch center where erik works.
we leave tomorrow to head down to denver for the rest of the week. i am going to miss it up here. this is a place i could move to and be happy. forever.

i knew there was a reason i liked the photo from this week's two word tuesday...i apparently had the same idea as that guy (see below).
this photo was taken years ago in the mountains of washington state...we spent a week exploring with our best friends. thanks for the awesome reminder julie!
i took this sweet boy to the clinic today. unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), he won't be going with us on our road trip. i am sure all the ladies i work with are thrilled as batman is evil, particularly outside our home. but, he has his "happy bag" crammed full of treats, catnip, and a stuffed banana that he loves. hopefully, he behaves.
this photo was taken last christmas right after my sister-in-law marsi and i finished dressing him in his festive holiday wear. he looks less than thrilled. nothing is more fun than putting stuff on cats.
while i am gone, i do plan to post at least one photo from each day...i hope you'll still check in from time to time.
until then...merry christmas!

is the last day to shop in my little etsy store for a while. i will be closing up for a much needed break. we are traveling to colorado (road trip!) to visit those we love for the holidays. sooo...please make sure to complete your purchases by thursday night, 9:00pm central standard time, as friday will be the last day i will ship vintage lovelies! i will re-open shop monday, january 1/10/10. i do have a small sale section that will be filled to the brim after the first of the year...and i will be adding lots of new vintage treasures as well. i made a little side trip today (while finishing up some last minute christmas shopping) and ended up coming home with two big boxes filled with treasures...and it's all for you!

and i am feeling it. we had such a busy weekend but did not actually accomplish anything important. we will definitely be stretched thin this week. first thing to check off the list is announce the last winner from the collection series!
tessa buys
tessa has the cutest etsy shop...if you like papercrafting, you must check it out! tessa, please email me [rachiesplace@hotmail.com] with your address so that i may send you your BIG box of goodies.
thank you again to everyone who participated in the giveaways the last 4 weeks. i really loved reading all of your comments. i will definitely be doing more giveaways after the first of the year. make sure you keep checking back...i may surprise you when you least expect it.
so, i have something to confess. i have a tv show obsession that is a little embarrassing. charmed. i know it is an old show, but it is on every morning on tnt from 7-10am. i turn it on while i get ready for work, take photos, clean house, blog, etc. the show is silly but i love their old home, their crazy style (even if it is not in style anymore), and of course, their "magic powers". i have always loved sitcoms and movies about witches. maybe it is because i wish i could wiggle my nose and have everything clean. dinner cooked. bills paid. i would be invincible. i know we all could use a little magic in our lives once in awhile to keep it together or get ahead. especially during the holidays.
photo source: weheartit so in honor of monday...in honor of the last week before christmas...in honor of being a mother...a wife...a woman...tell me what one thing you would accomplish if you had some practical magic of your own.

'tis the season to spend money. but not everything has to be pricey. one way i save is by getting creative with gift wrapping...i don't buy tons of paper, bows, ribbon, etc....i use what i have and i love the end result. here are some creative wrapping ideas that i found on weheartit.
and here are some creative wrapping ideas from moi.
scotch tape candles...my mother taught me to do this when i was a kid. just twist scotch tape, adhere to the package, and glitter it up! i used stickles glitter glue to make a pile of greenery and added sequins for the finishing touch. the package is wrapped in a brown grocery bag.
everything you see is thrifted...from the pink polka dot bag, to the sequin-filled tag, to the sky blue fabric strip. the plastic holly is from a dirty old wreath that i pulled apart and washed...i have a whole bowl of these awesome plastic twigs to use in crafty projects. i just used a little hot glue to put it all together.
easy and cheap. in a good way!
don't forget about the last giveaway before christmas...read below for details.
cheers!
